Endemic crime is an opportunity

D & K Management Consultants & Investigations has had a rewarding year in terms of success in all its departments handling the various areas of investigations. However, the top division in this regard has been the company's undercover service.

According to the D & K managing director, Kyle Condon, the primary reason for this is that although most of the company's clients have various forms of technical and physical security measures in place, there is still a very real need for undercover techniques, whether this is to provide valuable inside information or to gather much needed evidence. "I suppose the fundamental difference for us this year was the new approach we took in combining our undercover service with that of our Technical Division," explains Condon. "For example, our agents regularly made use of our covert cameras and recording devices to capture vital conversations and deals, and in each case that this was done, excellent results were achieved; allowing our clients to successfully initiate disciplinary action against the culprits.

"Let me just take this opportunity to point out that in many of our cases over the years, the culprits were often the very people responsible for protecting the assets and organisations, ie, year in review the security guards themselves.

"From the 71 new clients for 2002 who made use of our undercover service, plus those of our existing clients who have been on our books for years and used us again this year, in one way or another, one point was made: undercover operations are a vital tool in any organisation and/or investigation," concludes Condon.
