ID production software program

December 2000 Access Control & Identity Management

Cardax PhotoPass II is a software program for the design and production of photo ID cards. The program captures and stores images and produces output for a variety of hard card and other printers.

Using an industry standard Microsoft Windows 95 operating system, PhotoPass II is also 'network ready'. Integration with existing database systems is achieved through the use of industry standard Microsoft Access' database software. PhotoPass II also uses industry standard TWAIN image capture protocol so that a wide range of computer image capture hardware can be used.

Images can be captured from a range of sources including CCD video camera, camcorder, digital camera image files or TWAIN-compatible computer scanners. Once captured these images can be cropped to size and to compensate for poor lighting, the image contrast and brightness can be easily changed with on-screen drag-bars to produce an optimum result. A new cardholder image can be captured every 15 s making high volume card production easy and quick.

Furthermore, images do not have to be portrait pictures either. PhotoPass II can digitally capture up to three images per cardholder. These images can be signatures captured either optically or from a file created from a digital signature pad. Other applications (local legislation permitting) can include the storage of cardholder fingerprints as an image file.

The system includes full operator security functions that provide password-protected operation to every part of the software. Selected operators can have fully definable yet suitably restricted access.

The adult trial of all operator activity is recorded on a per cardholder basis.

Printing can be accomplished on any printer that is supported by Microsoft Windows. This includes normal office laser printers, colour laser printers and high quality sophisticated hard card printers.

In addition, magnetic card encoding on track one, two or three can be configured in the card layout design. Encoding is done at time of printing.

Where large scale image capture and card production is required, for example at university enrolment, multiple PhotoPass capture stations can be connected together to a common print server computer. It is also possible to have the cardholder database on a separate server connected to the network.
