Sentry Group extends its electronic monitoring activities

December 2000 Surveillance

Honeywell-TeqTrader's Shane Nefdt, says the key performance elements of this system are ease of installation, a FlashScan protocol between control panels and field devices (detectors and modules) and the high speed 315 kBaud network that reports back to a network control station graphic user interface.

"A system that reliably delivers early warning of incipient fire conditions within a building is possibly one of the best investments any building owner will ever make," says Nefdt. "Both from the point of view of saving lives and protecting property and assets.

"In the event of a fire in a building, the Onyx system will alert all occupants to evacuate in a safe manner by broadcasting clearly audible voice messages via a public address system throughout the building or to specific areas within the building.

"The system is also capable of prioritising evacuation of the section closest to the fire.

"Onyx is a truly trailblazing system and probably about 10 technological levels ahead of any existing range. The Onyx range works equally well on small and large applications and operates in any environment because of its modular nature. There is nothing to compare with it in terms of speed, functionality and flexibility, based on a very competitive pricing structure."

Action Fire Protection Services is installing and commissioning the Onyx system as each phase of the new legislative building is completed. Honeywell-TeqTrader is also maintaining an on-site presence by way of technical backup during the commissioning phase.

Commenting on Honeywell-TeqTrader's role, Action Fire Protection Services' electronics manager, Eben Snyman says: "Honeywell-TeqTrader have not only supplied a system that is the state of the art worldwide, but have provided us with the highest level of training and technical support - on an ongoing basis - to ensure optimum performance of this system at our client's premises."
