ESDA member profile: TRI-bpt Automation

November 2004 News & Events

TRI-bpt Automation was established in 1968 as Time Recorder and Intercom, and known as TRI.

From its initial humble beginnings selling industrial time control equipment and services, it soon established a solid business reputation based on personal service as pioneered by the founder Uli Greve.

A major milestone was achieved in 1978 with the acquisition of the prestigious Bpt audio and video product range.

A new rapid phase of growth was experienced and soon Bpt was acknowledged as the de facto standard product brand in the industry.

With the further inclusion of the Came Automation products in 1994, TRI became firmly established as a major supplier of sophisticated intercom and automation products.

During 2000, BPT S.p.A. (Italy), confident in the growth potential of the southern African market, invested in TRI and the name changed to TRI-bpt Automation.

This resulted in even further significant growth resulting in what it is today - having its head office in Johannesburg, five branches countrywide and a total of 60 staff members servicing over 1500 customers including 110 distributors with a total installed base of R600 million. (The Bpt product range on its own currently dominates the South African market having a 65% share of the more sophisticated intercom systems and an installed base of R300 million.)

Other products in the TRI-bpt fold include access control, glass door automation, parking control systems, CCTV systems and various accessories that complement the complete product range.

With its technical expertise and firmly established reputation the company is acknowledged in the industry as a significant player supplying a complete range of products backed by countrywide service and extremely competent staff.

Recently BPT S.p.A. (Italy), as an increasing sign of confidence in the ever-expanding South African security market, acquired a further shareholding in TRI-bpt, simultaneously committing to a transfer of people skills, which will in turn add an additional wealth of experience.
