Blue Line modular intrusion sensors

September 2004 Access Control & Identity Management, Security Services & Risk Management

In a perfect world, security system installers would leave their shop or warehouse with everything they needed to complete their work orders for the day. In the real world, however, installers often encounter the unexpected and identify system hardware needs not previously accounted for when the project was originally assessed.

For lack of the requisite intrusion detector inventory in their trucks or vans, installers are forced to leave the work site to retrieve the inventory they need - and productivity suffers.

Until now, it simply has not been practical for installers to maintain a comprehensive mobile inventory of individual specialty detectors, especially considering the number of sensor alternatives that are available for a wide range of intended purposes. That is why Bosch has introduced a line of modular, passive infrared (PIR) intrusion detectors designed to reduce inventory and increase installer productivity.

The initial portfolio of Bosch Blue Line intrusion detectors includes four models and a choice of plug-in camera modules suitable for diverse residential and light commercial applications. Additional options and accessories are expected to be added after the initial product launch period.

Blue Line detectors feature easy-to-mount two-piece construction and a convenient plug-in terminal strip to reduce installer training and installation time. Ample working space is available for wiring with the removable T-strip. Unlike many conventional detectors, all electronics and the sealed optical chamber are incorporated into the front cover. No adjustments are required for mounting heights of 2,25 m to 2,74 m. In addition, detectors cover all ranges up to 11 m without adjustments and provide user-selectable look-down zones.

Selected models feature Bosch's patented Pet Friendly technology that distinguishes between signals caused by humans and animals. One model combines PIR and microwave detection technology with proprietary signal processing algorithms to differentiate disturbances in the detection field.

Blue Line's modular design makes it possible to add a choice of monochrome or colour camera modules to any of the four detectors. In addition, a choice of optional mounting brackets can be used with any Blue Line detector model to accommodate various installations. Blue Line detectors have been engineered to deliver superior response and false alarm immunity.

Advanced first step processing (FSP) provides virtually instantaneous response to human targets while eliminating false alarms created by other sources. With FSP, installers do not have to select the sensitivity level for each application. Instead, sensitivity automatically is adjusted. Blue Line detectors compensate for temperature variations, and sealed optics provide draft and insect immunity.

As intrusion detector technology continues to respond to the specialised needs of residential and commercial property owners, modularity, as reflected in the Bosch Blue Line design, offers the necessary flexibility to meet performance expectations, solving an age-old problem of too-little space.
