Digital image storage and transmission system from Bosch

August 2004 Surveillance

Bosch Security Systems recently launched Dibos, a new digital image storage and transmission system that enables organisations to integrate visual information into their overall security applications.

"Dibos is a scalable, flexible video surveillance and recording system with advanced features for viewing, recording and accessing video images and corresponding data," explains Tony Janse, product manager of Bosch Security Systems, Southern Africa. "The system allows company-wide or global access to live and recorded images, and this sets the technology apart."

Dibos allows multi-image viewing of live images from up to 32 local cameras, with a further 16 IP-addressable cameras. In addition, separate in-cameo pan, tilt and zoom functions are available for each individual camera. Authorised persons can view images companywide or even globally, using public or private networks of all standard topologies, or from any PC connected to the Internet using a standard Web browser.

Image recording may be continuous, initiated manually or triggered by specific events such as alarms or signals from sensors and detectors. Recorded images are linked to the corresponding time, location and system-related data for documentation and evaluation at a later date. Images can also be transferred to any external storage media connected to the PC or network, transmitted or uploaded across the network or Internet, or printed out on any standard PC printer.

Built-in programmability allows Dibos to respond automatically to specific situations and events, enabling action to be initiated without human intervention. Programmed actions can include transmitting images to predefined recipients in cases of alarm, or sending messages to security personnel or an alarm monitoring centre.

Extensive connectivity to external devices and systems makes Dibos an integral part of the organisation's security solution. A wide range of systems can be connected not only to cameras, but also to alarm panels, sensors, motion and intrusion detectors, timers, or even to card and bar code readers and ATMs. Interfaces are also available for activating external devices such as doors, gates, barriers and alarms.

All system access is subject to appropriate user authorisation, with user profiles and a logbook of events such as log-in, log-off, status changes, image transmissions and system shutdown. Integrated system security functions ensure the integrity of your system operation and data retention, including constant monitoring and/or forwarding of correct operation, power outages, video loss, tampering and other fault conditions.

"Dibos adds powerful video surveillance, evaluation and documentation capabilities to an operation's overall security solution," Janse concludes.
