All-in-one digital CCVE recording solution from Panasonic

July 2004 Surveillance

NPC (Electronics), the exclusive importer and distributor of Panasonic products in South Africa, has added two 'all-in-one' digital disk recording solution products to its closed circuit video equipment ('CCVE') range. Both newcomers form part of the Panasonic WJ-HD300 Series and incorporate Panasonic's proprietary 1/30 Super Compression technology, which has facilitated a quantum leap in performance and functionality.

The two new additions, known as the WJ-HD316 and WJ-HD309 respectively, boast all the vital recording components and features into a single unit that is also scalable to meet extended user needs. The result is unprecedented, highly reliable surveillance recording for a wide range of applications.

"Panasonic's 1/30 Super Compression technology is the core differentiator of the WJ-HD300 Series," says Mags Anthony, director: Panasonic CCVE Systems. "To begin with, the data compression ratio of the new machines is approximately 1,5 to two times better than conventional compression technology, which results in a considerable disk saving. At the same time, the new algorithm delivers images of exceptional quality. It does so by dividing the entire screen into high and low frequency elements, which effectively reduces the artificial distortion and noise of conventional compression technology. The compression data is also calculated within four movement-delineated field images, called temporal transforms, which lessens the volume of redundant data recorded."

Designed for simple and instinctive operation, the front panel of the WJ-HD300 Series boasts a function-orientated layout. A maximum of eight Panasonic high-speed dome cameras can be controlled via the coax cable from the front panel while the graphic user interface-based menu screen facilitates quick and easy set-up.

Several value-adding features have also been included, together ensuring system reliability, operational efficiency and cost-savings. They include, among others, high-density recording, full-rate live multiscreen monitoring of up to 16 cameras simultaneously on the WJ-HD316 and simultaneous live/recording/playback/network capabilities.

"The scalability of the WJ-HD300 Series is another key feature," continues Anthony. "Four WJ-HD316 units can be cascaded to allow a maximum of 64 video inputs. All 64 cameras can then be switched and viewed in live and playback from a single keyboard. The 160 Gb storage capacity of either model can also be enhanced by connecting up to seven extension units and hard disk drives, to reach a maximum storage capacity of up to 4,8 Tb for ultra-long recording times."
