Panasonic extends dome surveillance camera range

July 2004 Surveillance, Security Services & Risk Management

The arrival of several new models has substantially enhanced the range of Panasonic fixed dome surveillance cameras available on the local market. Imported to and distributed in South Africa exclusively by NPC (Electronics) (Panasonic), the extended line-up includes a selection of feature-rich products to suit every application.

The new models are:

* WV-CF212 Colour Dome Camera - An 80-mm diameter, compact unit for indoor applications, the WV-CF212 has a ¼-type CCD with 440 000 pixels and delivers a horizontal resolution of more than 480 lines. Requiring a minimum illumination of 2 lux at F1.4, the WV-CF212's built-in 2x variable focus lens produces natural, clear colour images in locations where lighting is low or where backlighting is a problem (such as windows and doorways). Other features include 200° panning and 150° adjustable tilting angles, back light compensation, aperture correction and auto tracing white balance. The unit also includes Panasonic's vertical drive (VD2) synchronisation, which ensures 'roll-free' pictures when connected to other Panasonic system products. This camera is ideal for installation in offices, supermarkets and banks.

* WV-CF224 Colour Dome Camera - A 135 mm diameter, compact unit designed for indoor use, the WV-CF224 can be used with both AC and DC power sources. The unit has a 2x variable focus lens and yields 480-line horizontal resolution in low lighting (2 lux minimum) at F1.4. A full range of correction features is included, including back light compensation, aperture correction and auto tracing white balance - together ensuring crisp colour images in dark or backlit environments. Used with a 24 V a.c. power source, the WV-CF224 simultaneously supports internal, line-lock and VD2 synchronisation, making it simple to configure a reliable, multichannel camera system. This camera is suitable for installation in offices, supermarkets, banks, and so on.

* WV-CW474 Super Dynamic II Colour Surveillance Camera - A 152,5 mm diameter, feature-rich unit in a rugged body, the WV-CW474 features a vandal-resistant outdoor housing that is essentially weatherproof and vandal-resistant, with an IP66 rating. Designed to facilitate single-camera 24-hour surveillance capabilities, the unit can be pre-programmed to switch from daytime 480-line colour to nighttime 570-line black-and-white monitoring. A multifunction digital motion detector automatically triggers an alarm signal and (if linked to a DVD/VTR) starts recording images. Super Dynamic II processing capabilities provide an 80x wider dynamic range that yields clear images even in low-lighting (full-colour at 0,8 lux, black-and-white at 0,1 lux) or back-lit lighting situations; while Panasonic's proprietary 3D hinge technology makes it easy to set precise monitoring angles. Applications for this camera include outdoor installation in parking lots, urban centres and mines.

* WV-NW474 Network Colour Dome Camera - A 175 mm diameter, vandal-proof camera, the WV-NW474 has a die-cast aluminium body and a shock-resistant chassis. 24-hour surveillance is enabled through automatic or manual switching between daytime 480-line colour and nighttime 570-line black-and-white monitoring, with images captured at 0,8 lux and 0,1 lux respectively (at F1.4). Both analog video output and digital Ethernet ports are provided, along with a built-in network interface (10Base-T/100Base-T) for remote monitoring via PC. As with the WV-CW474, this unit incorporates Super Dynamic II technology that delivers an 80x wider dynamic range compared to conventional cameras; and has a built-in, multifunction digital motion detector. Digital signal processing ensures high quality pictures. The unit's 3D hinge (pan, tilt and azimuth) makes it easy to adjust the camera angle. This camera is ideal for installation in parking lots, public spaces and so on, offering the added bonus of being able to view images locally as well as via LAN/WAN or the Internet.
