Nanoteq targets corporate identity management

July 2004 News & Events

ActivCard, a global provider of authentication and digital identity solutions for secure access to information resources, has appointed Nanoteq, a South African security solutions providers, as a reseller.

The reseller agreement formalises a long working relationship between the two companies. Nanoteq has already built a strong skills base in ActivCard's products and has also developed proprietary extensions and APIs that enhance the functionality of the ActivCard offerings.

Says Pieter Pretorius, business solutions manager at Nanoteq, "Many companies are looking for strong two-factor authentication systems to secure their information assets, and that is an area where ActivCard excels. Its scalable and robust authentication and multi-application smartcard solutions are used by millions of people around the world.

"The ActivCard product range is also a perfect fit with Nanoteq's other product offerings and forms an important element of our strategy to offer clients complete security solutions. It is tightly integrated with Microsoft's products, for example, which complement Nanoteq's capabilities as a Microsoft Gold Certified Security Solutions Partner."

Nanoteq has written Active Directory Extensions for ActivCard, certified by the vendor, that add advanced features such as secure access to corporate e-mail through a Web interface for remote users. Pretorius says that this is an example of one of the value-adds that Nanoteq can bring to the table for their customers.

"Many organisations still rely on static, re-usable passwords, exposing enterprise information to access by unauthorised users. ActivCard offers PKI and smartcard-based solutions that allow companies to tighten security without complicating management of the security environment, vastly increasing security spending or causing inconvenience to end-users," says Pretorius.

ActivCard's Single Sign-On offering (SSO) reduces the need for end users to manage multiple username and password combinations and login tasks. ActivCard SSO allows enterprises to protect sign-on with multifactor authentication, including biometrics, out-of-the-box - without having to deploy additional third-party products. With a single authentication, ActivCard SSO authorises access to workstations, networks, applications, and websites.

Its Enterprise Access Cards consolidate employee credentials onto a single, secure smartcard. This provides a photo ID as well as a security device that enables secure Windows and network login, PC 'locking', secure remote access (VPN), secure email with digital signatures and a variety of other desktop and network security applications. Employees can also access buildings and other facilities with the same cards for a truly consolidated security solution.
