Upgraded surveillance system for Wayne Rubber

May 2004 Surveillance

Rubber manufacturer, Wayne Rubber, has upgraded its video surveillance system to enhance overall security and keep a close eye on factory worker productivity.

Patrick Palmer, managing director at Wayne Rubber, explains why Intervid was selected to roll out the surveillance system at the company's Durban-based factory, "We have been a loyal Intervid customer for the past five years and, when it came time to review the surveillance system previously installed by Intervid, we chose to utilise the company's services once again.

"The system used at our factory features a number of cameras with PTZ capability. This state-of-the-art camera arrangement is accessible via remote access on our corporate network from any laptop computer," Palmer explains.

"This highly intuitive remote access facility allows us to monitor work progress, both inside and outside the factory, at any time we choose. As a result, the new system now offers a far wider range of functionality than previously possible - and has helped streamline our operations and tighten security," he adds.

Palmer points out that the factory surveillance system is currently used for two primary functions: internally to monitor employee productivity, and externally to enhance security.

"In addition, we often use the remote access functionality as a marketing tool. By dialling in to the camera system, we are able to demonstrate the production facility to customers in a live environment. At the same time, we are able to monitor the progress made on jobs due for completion," he explains.

Palmer says the entire installation has progressed smoothly, without a single problem encountered.

Martin Jones, regional director of Intervid KZN, says Wayne Rubber required a system that was not only reliable, but also provided state-of-the-art functionality.

"Safety, productivity and security are important factors for the company, all of which are now monitored and recorded round-the-clock. This allows management to react to problems if and when they occur, and also enforce tight controls over the production facility and inventory levels," he concludes.
