QDE provides locally manufactured radio solutions

May 2004 Infrastructure, Infrastructure

QD Electronics has been providing the security and two-way radio industry with a comprehensive locally manufactured range of two-way and trunking radio solutions since 1978 and distributing nationally via a network of appointed distributors, dealers and its own distribution centre in Kyalami.

The range consists of the following products:

* Tracer MR959 - 35-channel mobile receiver.

* Tracer SM929 - the 99-channel system.

* Bantam MX - 80-channel microprocessor controlled with two receivers.

* Tracer TM979 - designed for both mobile and data applications - trunking.

* Tracer DM989 - designed for mobile data only - trunking.

In addition, QDE supplies a comprehensive range of spares and accessories not only for its own product range, but also power supplies, antennae, portable batteries, microphones, coax and connectors, power cables, loudspeakers, brackets and installation hardware.

Proof of its ability to provide solutions, QDE has manufactured a unique product known as the VT-Unit. Its main feature is that it connects a standard VHF mobile or portable radio automatically into a countrywide trunking network. Up to three different base stations can be selected by changing the CTCSS codes on the mobile/portable radio. The base stations can then individually call any mobile/portable radio anywhere in the country anytime, and there is no limit on the number of VT-Units that can be employed in any system.

Some of its many applications include cash-in-transit companies which require two-way communications between the security officer, the CIT vehicle and the control room when cash is being moved inside huge shopping centres; and security companies that require two-way communications between a portable radio and the control room when responding to alarms and the security officer is away from the vehicle.
