GE Security DVR captures and stores 1 TB of video

March/April 2004 Surveillance

Retailers, financial institutions, schools and other digital CCTV users can capture and archive over 1 Terabyte (TB) - in excess of 1000 GB - of continuous recordings with GE Security's DSR-2000e digital video recorder (DVR) which looks, feels and operates like a VCR.

At 1 TB, the easy-to-use DSR-2000e provides months, even years, of video image storage with its four internal hard drives. Versus using VCRs, users do not need to change tapes, store rooms full of videotapes or worry about equipment going down. Nonetheless, its control panel features the same simple functions of a VCR, including a jog shuttle dial that makes it easy to scan through recordings rapidly or frame-by-frame without image distortion.

The upgraded DSR-2000e also features TCP/IP flash, Ethernet connectivity and an 'about' menu which includes the MAC hardware address. Upon start-up, it automatically senses whether the connected video input source is NTSC or PAL. The DSR-2000e then self-configures, depending on the format sensed. The 1 TB unit also interfaces with all major brands of multiplexers including GE Security, DM, Philips, Pelco, Sanyo, Navco, ATV, ATV QSP, QSI 1700 and Diebold. In addition, it supports interfaces to cameras, monitors, modems for POTS communication, and archive devices including GE Security's Digital Video Storage Array (DVSe), AIT, DAT, RAID and CD Write.

Record duration of the DSR-2000e with 1 TB of archiving in NTSC format at 0,1 pictures per second with standard resolution is 25,4 years. At five pictures per second in high-resolution mode, the unit stores 2,75 months of video and, in standard resolution, stores 6,1 months of images. In PAL format, five pictures per second in high-resolution mode yields 2,3 months of video and, in standard resolution mode, stores 5,1 months of video. In addition to 1 TB of archiving capacity, the DSR-2000e is also available with storage capacities of 40, 80, 160, 320 and 640 GB.
