GeoVision partners with Intel

February 2004 News & Events, Integrated Solutions

Version 6 of the GeoVision control software was developed in close association with Intel, using both the latest version of the Intel Pentium 4 processor and dual independent display technology as well as the Intel 852GME chipset to enhance video streaming and to increase compression ratios.

On the back of this technology partnership, GeoVision in partnership with CUTS, the sole authorised import and distribution agent of GeoVision products in southern Africa, has developed a large installation surveillance management system based on local South African conditions and legal requirements. The system is ideal for casinos, large shopping centres and complex control rooms.

According to GeoVision SA's Jan Botha, "The main feature of the system is that it incorporates a software matrix that not only eliminates the necessity of using a hardware matrix, but also allows seamless multiple views of any camera along with any set of cameras, regardless of where on the network the other camera(s) are. It also features an electronic map system to enable easy navigation of complex areas, made easy by using multiscreen technology."

Another first is the ability to go into a smooth reverse playback mode to immediately observe the exact details of what triggered an incident. Once in this mode the operator can easily navigate around the incident to determine what action needs to be taken.

Adds Botha, "The system integrates with central messaging systems and/or other enterprise applications (such as access control) to add video links to incidents that occur. It also incorporates an incident management system that enables the surveillance operator to create a report of an incident, link it with the associated video clip(s) and automatically escalate it to the shift manager or security manager (user determined by type of incident) for action. All open incidents will remain active until closed by the appropriately designated officials."

The system has a built-in health checking facility that immediately reports loss of camera functionality, DVR failures or even a drop in recording speed, thereby ensuring that the system functions at optimum speed and functionality at all times.
