December 2003 News & Events, Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

The winners of the Detektor International Awards were presented recently at a prize-giving ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. The Detektor International Award, hosted by the publisher of Detektor International, Lennart Alexandrie from Ar Media International, is intended to reward and encourage research and development within the security technology field, signifying both confirmation and recognition of products that stand up to the criteria of outstanding innovation and their contribution to the advancement of the security industry.

Independently selected from amongst approximately 600 of the latest product developments, 12 products were nominated, four in each category; intruder alarms, access control and CCTV. The overall winner in each respective category receives the Best Product Award.

Best access control products

The overall winner of the 'Best Access Control Product Award' was OnGuard ET third edition from Lenel Systems International. This fully featured system, with a flexible open architecture, seamless integration possibilities, and using modern open communication combined with safe data encryption is certainly an impressive development from Lenel.

Solid (with its new Solicard ARX system) was pipped into second place, receiving a 'Highly Commended Product' award, whilst ID Teck and Guardware Systems (both entering biometrics solutions) shared the third place and received the 'Innovative Achievement' certificate.

Best CCTV products

The undisputed winner this year was Bosch Security Systems with its surveillance camera concept Autodome/Autotrack receiving the 'Best CCTV Product Award', and the Detektor International Award Trophy. The Autodome/AutoTrack is yet another new innovative and practical development, a practical tracking facility which makes for increasing efficiency, costs and time management on a wide variety of applications.

DV-IP from Dedicated Micros (UK) and DMS 180 III from Dallmeier received the 'Innovative Achievement' award and shared third place, whilst Axis came second and received the 'Highly Commended Product' award for its Axis 205 entry.

Best alarm products

All four manufacturers, nominated for this year's 'Best Alarm Product', are already well known worldwide players in their respective areas of expertise. The outdoor motion detector, Crow MRX-300, from Crow Electronics (Israel) shared the third place with the triple sensing fire detector, Bosch F220-PTHC, from Bosch Security Systems. UK-based manufacturer Advanced Perimeter Systems received a 'Highly Commended Product' certificate for its perimeter intrusion system, Flexiguard CLS.

But the winner of the trophy and chosen as the 'Best Alarm Product 2003' was Optex VX-402R from Japanese manufacturer Optex. The VX-402R, a versatile battery operated, multistabilised, outdoor detector for wireless installation with high performance against false alarms, is certain to be acknowledged as a time and money saving device, whilst providing a technically efficient solution.
