The DD 400AM Series is a powerful range of commercial high-risk dual technology detectors, based on the successful DD 400 Series, with added anti-masking protection. So says Brett Birch, managing director of GE Interlogix in South Africa.
"The DD400AM Series is available in a 16 m or 20 m coverage pattern version and is packed with the usual GE Interlogix features," says Birch. These include the following:
Unique Anti-Masking feature
"Again, GE Interlogix has made an innovative use of active infrared and light guides in the detection of masking attempts," he comments. "The light guides allow the AIR to protect fully both the PIR and microwave technologies, thus ensuring maximum confidence that the detector is operating correctly. Even the most sophisticated masking attempts made to disable the detector, using a wide range of materials, and are automatically reported to the control panel," Birch points out.
According to Birch, the DD 400AM operation and reporting are easily field-programmable, making it flexible to meet the requirements of any application. "As a further level of confidence, the DD 400AM performs its own regular self-test of the PIR and anti-masking functions, reporting any discrepancy automatically to the control panel," he adds.
Twin opposed antennae
Birch comments that firstly, the DD 400AM Series of detectors makes no compromises because it is a dual technology detector. "It utilises all the good features of our PIRs, including sealed gliding focus mirrors and the latest 4D signal processing. Add to that the GE Interlogix high quality microwave module, where the latest design using twin opposed antennae has been used to ensure a better signal to noise ratio and better microwave direction, and the end results are products with sharp detection and excellent false alarm immunity."
Distance of motion (DoM) processing
This proprietary microwave processing evidently converts the analog signal into a digital one, where the custom ASIC can effectively measure the distance travelled by the intruder, irrespective of the intruder's speed or distance from the detector. "This gives a significantly more uniform microwave signal over the entire protected area and prevents microwave 'hot spots' close into the detector," Birch says.
Volumetric curtains of detection
Benefiting from the success of the EV series PIRs, the DD 400AM also features solid curtains of detection. "Full undercrawl protection gives maximum security, while the special characteristics of a 'curtain' ensures not only better intruder detection, but also better PIR stability from the environment," he says.
'4D' signal processing
4D signal processing is the latest generation of PIR processing taken from the EV 400 Plus. "4D allows the PIR channel to intelligently analyse a signal pattern, and distinguish between real human movement and false alarm hazards. The PIR channel in its own right is resistant to false alarms by analysing the size, shape and speed of successive signals. The 'moving pole filters' recently added to the 4D processing ensures real immunity to traditionally harsh environments," he points out.
True range control
"Finally, the DD 400AM Series is able to adjust both the PIR and microwave channels. Due to the strength of the gliding focus curtain mirror, it is possible to reduce how hard the detector is working in smaller rooms, in both the PIR and microwave channels, making the detector even more stable, without compromising its excellent detection," Birch concludes.
