Cost effective two-way solution

September 2003 Infrastructure

Motorola has introduced its new wave of mobile two-way radios, the commercial series. Designed specifically for budget-conscious and fast moving business operations, the range offers an array of features in one of the smallest packages on the market. Spanning entry-level push-to-talk to advanced functionality for demanding business environments, the commercial series comprises four new mobile radios for in-vehicle or fixed site communications.

"Built to Motorola's exacting standards, the radios are rugged and robust yet versatile and easy-to-use," says Suzaan Sauerman, key accounts marketing manager for Motorola's commercial, government and industrial solutions sector (CGISS): Middle East and Africa (MEA). "These qualities will see them being the preferred choice with transportation companies, environmental agencies, and local government and municipalities - in fact, any mobile work team that needs flexible communications will be quick to realise the benefits of the commercial series."

For smaller teams, the CM140 and CM340 models have a single-digit display and allow up to 10 channels of communication. The CM160 and CM360 models are geared towards operations with more advanced requirements. These models have an eight-character display and up to 64 or 100 channels. They feature an intuitive menu option and large, clearly labelled buttons that make communicating easier in demanding situations.

Looking after employees and resources is paramount, and with this in mind, the radios have an emergency mode whereby a single button press is all it takes to alert colleagues or base that assistance is required. Invoking the lone worker function allows a radio to be set up to solicit a response from a user at regular intervals. Should the user be unable to provide that affirmation, an emergency procedure is activated.

A stolen CM340 or CM360 radio can also be 'stunned' to prevent usage and 'unstunned' upon retrieval. To protect against theft even further, a removable slide mount allows regular, quick and easy removal of the radio when not in use. The commercial series is available from Motorola authorised dealers nationwide.
