GE Interlogix Access and Integration Group recently announced that its new Model 260 medium 14" read range smartcard readers offer true universal compatibility with all ISO 15693 and 14443A security badges, disc tags and key fob credentials.
Without concern for being tied to a proprietary format, users can now implement contactless smartcard technology for logical/information access control, time and attendance and other applications in addition to physical access control. For those considering biometrics at some of their access points, future cards, tags or disc tags will hold a wide range of biometric information.
"The Model 260 lets smartcard technology users confidently mix and match existing 100% ISO-compliant credentials," says Randall Provoost, GE Interlogix product marketing manager for credentials and readers. "By avoiding proprietary and exclusive smartcard formats, they can preserve their present investments, eliminate potential single supplier dependencies and enjoy lower total costs of security system ownership."
With a 4-state intelligent supervision feature, the new GE Interlogix smartcard reader monitors and reports alarms for open contact, closed contact, cut wire and shorted wire. It thereby ensures that security personnel are notified if someone tampers with the reader, a door is breeched or a circuit is bypassed.
To inhibit discoloration in all types of conditions, including direct sunlight, the Model 260 is made of a durable, UV-resistant polycarbonate material. The reader features sealed, or potted, electronics as a protection against inclement weather. Readers have a lifetime warranty.
