Fire protection is assuming an increasingly important role in today's world. Not just for high profile international landmarks, but across applications as diverse as shopping malls, and large industrial complexes. Protecting the lives of occupants and users, material goods and even intellectual property is high on the global agenda.

For over 60 years, Siemens has been carrying out intensive research into the causes, effects, detection and prevention of fire. In recent times, they have perfected their knowledge in the Siemens fire research laboratory - the largest facility of its kind in the world - by running through every possible fire scenario, from beginning to end, time and time again.

Total fire protection

While appropriate construction goes some way to preventing fires, this alone is not enough. Accurate, reliable fire detection systems contribute greatly to keeping the risk of fire to acceptable levels - the earlier a fire is detected, the faster it can be dealt with. But speed is just one of many imperatives associated with fire protection: a true solution must address every aspect of fire management - from the elimination of gasses to the safe evacuation of building inhabitants.

Fire detection

Siemens fire detection systems feature intelligent, lightning-speed interpretation models, able to discover smoke and flames immediately in any kind of environment, no matter how problematic.

Gas detection

Ultra-sensitive gas detectors recognise the presence of inflammable gases in the air. Immediately, countermeasures are activated - the supply is switched off, the ventilation system is regulated accordingly and the relevant alarms are sounded.

Alarm and evacuation systems

Electro-acoustic systems are specifically designed to provide clear, unambiguous communication. Unmistakeable fire alarm signals, clear, reassuring rules for conduct and explicit instructions help to avoid outbreaks of panic - and the ensuing chaos.

Extinguishing systems

It is a known fact that the substances used to extinguish a fire are almost as likely as the fire itself to cause damage. As a result, Siemens has ensured that its range of extinguishing agents is environmentally friendly too.

All smoke, flame, gas, air sample or multicriteria detectors come with multiplayer signal analysis and intelligent interpretation algorithms to recognise and locate any type of fire, no matter how big or small. More importantly, they will only activate the alarm where the threat is real. The Siemens all-round approach to fire protection begins from planning and implementation to training and maintenance. The company aims to keep operating costs for the system low, and compatibility with existing components (as well as future upgrades) is built in as standard. Siemens will even engineer a finance deal for its clients.
