Vicon embedded DVRs now available locally

June 2003 Surveillance

Digital Surveillance Systems (DSS) recently introduced a new range of network-based embedded DVR systems from Vicon USA. Vicon is a world leader in the design, engineering and production of high quality video systems and equipment. For over 30 years, Vicon products have been protecting and securing some of the most prestigious locations in more than 40 countries worldwide.

According to DSS, the company has been working hard to find the best possible digital video recording and management solutions, and are keen to introduce the ViconNet and Kollector Elite range of DVR systems and network video management solutions to the African market.

ViconNet is a software platform that connects the new Kollector Elite digital recorders and master workstations into a digital video management system. ViconNet allows the user to configure any recorder from remote sites, eg, listen and record video and audio from any camera anywhere, view live and playback on the same screen (true triplex operation), assign specific user-rights to every single function and camera on the system (live or playback).

ViconNet's graphic interface provides ease-of-use functionality through simple-to-understand icons and an easy ergonomic layout. The same look and functionality is common to both recorders and workstations, reducing learning curves and training costs. ViconNet reaches across LAN, WAN and Internet environments, transporting video and audio from any IP point. Multiple recorders and workstations can simultaneously view and record video at any resolution without common reductions in performance.

Software features include:

* Optimised MPEG-4 compression.

* Max resolution 768 x 576 pixels (PAL).

* Up to 200 FPS recording without any loss of frame rate.

* 16 channel video input.

* Embedded operating system.

* Digital zoom function on live and playback.

* VMD - full motion detection configurations including sensitivity per zone and programmable macros.

* Full backup functions for archiving to any media.
