The next generation in digital print production from BDM Security Printing

May 2000 Access Control & Identity Management

BDM Security Printing is a market leader in the supply of bank contract cheques to the southern African market. In order to further its capabilities in this field, the company recently purchased and installed an Imaggia MG20 digital encoding machine. This high-tech system is the only one of its kind in South Africa and it offers improved product quality at an increased production speed.

The Imaggia MG20, manufactured by leading US company Check Technology, is easy to operate and offers high quality printing on both long and short-run applications, and is ideal for the printing and production of personalised security documents.

The Imaggia MG20 makes use of state of the art digital, nonimpact technology that offers print quality that is visually indistinguishable from offset print. As well as its printing quality, the Imaggia MG20 also features the latest system control software and hardware. Its Telegenic touchscreen provides comprehensive system monitoring, site specific trouble shooting and management reporting.

"The digital technology offered by BDMSP, makes it easier to create personalised documents for clients. Whether this personalisation is for long or short runs, we are able to produce the documents required, within the time allocated to us," says Jeff Tintinger, General Manager, BDM Security Printing.

"A further feature of this system that will ensure our market leadership is its sophisticated and powerful processing capabilities. The Imaggia MG20 is able to receive data in various formats and that data can then be converted in-house for personalised, digital production on the Imaggia MG20."

Digitally personalised and encoded products

The Imaggia MG20, through its dynamic collation system is able to pick from any hopper, in any order. It is able to quickly and effectively collate and stack, and its paper handling is flexible and compatible with a wide variety of paper stock including carbonless and cover stock. The modular design allows further modules to be added to the system, and the advanced vacuum pick system ensures fast, accurate sheet selection.

"This system, which is the only one of its kind in South Africa, will allow BDM Security Printing to increase its product range, as well as enable us to reach a broader customer base," explains Tintinger.

"Although its primary function will be for secure cheque printing, we will now be capable of supplying digitally personalised and encoded products irrespective of run length. By digitally printing and encoding in a single operation, the Imaggia MG20 makes for cost and time efficient production and our turnaround times are reduced too."

Some of the secure paper-based products that can be produced using the Imaggia MG20 include:

* Personal cheques.

* Tickets.

* Deposit slips.

* Vouchers.

* Business cheques.

* Coupons.

* Lottery tickets.

* Direct mail applications, particularly within the financial sector
