Metrofile Training Academy (MTA), a group company of JSE-listed Metrofile Holdings, has received its Education, Training and Development Practices-Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP-SETA) accreditation for its Records Management Course, making it the first service provider to receive Unit Standard accreditation for this qualification in South Africa.
According to Selelepoo Sebaka, head of the MTA, the three-day course is now accredited against Unit Standard 13933 of the National Qualification Further Education and Training (FET) Certificate: Archives and Records Management (SAQA ID 64069) which means it is quality assured by the ETDP-SETA. “The FET Certificate: Archives and Records Management is a relatively new qualification and one of the first formal academic programmes in the field of records and archive management.”
Sebaka says the accreditation provides multiple benefits for MTA clients as trainees not only benefit from a high standard, quality assured programme but clients can be confident that the course adheres to ETDP-SETA standards. “Enrolment in the course may be a first step towards achieving a full qualification in Archives and Records Management and organisations that enroll employees in the course can claim back monies contributed towards the skills development levy in line with the Skills Development Act.”
“Most importantly organisations whose employees attend the course will reap the benefits of a better skilled and more productive workforce.”
Sebaka says the course teaches key concepts and models of integrated records and archive management principles. “The MTA vision is to train companies and individuals to develop and implement effective information and records management strategies, policies and classification systems that ensure maximum staff efficiency and are in line with local and international records management standards, as well as full compliance with laws such the National Archives and Records Service Act and the Promotion of Access to Information Act.”
“Underlying our philosophy is the acknowledgment and expectation that learners are active participants in the learning process and are an integral part of our facilitation methodology and are therefore well equipped to enhance quality and efficiency in their workplace.”
Sebaka says the MTA trains approximately 30 learners per month with these numbers expected to increase following the ETDP-SETA accreditation.
