Safequip urges residential/township fire-prevention education

June 2011 Fire & Safety, Products & Solutions

Fire equipment supplier and subsidiary to the Rovic group of companies, SafeQuip is spearheading an initiative to try and prevent the disastrous consequences of fires occurring in suburbs and townships.

Two recent fires in the Cape were as a result of bushfires that burned uncontrolled towards residential areas, causing 14 houses to be burned down in Somerset West in April and 1500 informal dwellings in Masiphumelele in May. It seems that if municipalities do not clear or enforce the clearing of overgrown bush on vacant land next to residential areas, the risk of fire to residential areas is significant. In both the above cases out of control bushfires were the cause of hundreds of residential house losses.

SafeQuip suggests that every office, home and car carries a fire extinguisher as you never know when it is needed, and when you do need it, it will really be the only fire equipment you need to fight a fire safely. There are many other fire fighting apparatus such as the home fire safety kit which is a smoke alarm (battery powered) and a fire blanket, to put over a flaming pot of oil, and a mini fire extinguisher, all in a box available from retail outlets and SafeQuip stores.
