Norbain SA on par

April 2011 News & Events

Norbain SA, South Africa’s leading distributor of CCTV, access control and security systems, is committed to sport development in South Africa, and has backed this up with its announcement of further sponsorship of top South African PGA golf professional, Johan van Vuuren.

Van Vuuren has participated in some of the world’s most prestigious Club-Pro Tournaments and is the current holder of both the South African National Order of Merit and the Sun International Order of Merit.

To Van Vuuren, golf is a profession but to most people it is a sport, a culture, a hobby, a lifestyle or a business tool. The game has long been considered one of the best ways for people to get together to build relationships and discuss critical issues with business associates in a less formal environment. And that opinion still holds true today as many companies hold golf days either to thank existing clients, prospect new clients, raise funds for charity or simply to network.

With the business benefits of golf in mind, Norbain SA is offering its customers an opportunity to improve their game with exclusive lessons from Van Vuuren, which will include coaching for both long and short games.

John Loftus, managing director of Norbain SA, is a passionate golfer himself so sponsoring a top golfer was the logical step for the company. “We admire Johan’s dedication and achievements and are proud to be associated with his success both locally and internationally. In conjunction with our support for him, we wanted to share his great talent with a few of our loyal clients and thus decided to hold lessons as opposed to the conventional golf day. The response to our golfing lessons has been tremendous.

“Golf can tell a lot about a player as it is a game of focus, respect, fairness, courtesy and consideration. Spending time on the course lets people understand who they are dealing with, which is always an advantage – both socially and professionally. And in the stressful security industry it is the ideal way to unwind and do business at the same time. The major deals may not necessarily be signed and sealed on the golf course, but strong and lasting relationships can be formed in a more relaxed setting than can be done around a boardroom table.”

The sponsorship from Norbain SA allowed Van Vuuren to participate in various international tournaments, culminating in his participation in the International Team Championships held late last year in Portugal, attracting the best international players from some over 30 countries.

“Without Norbain’s generosity and support I would not be in the position to travel around the world participating in these most prestigious golfing tournaments. I am most grateful for everything the company helped me to achieve,” says Van Vuuren.
