Integrated skills the best way to piece together HR says Accsys

January 2011 News & Events

Amid ongoing debate over whether or not a standard integrated human resource system to cover all HR requirements is possible, Accsys management believes the answer lies in having the relevant skills sets with integration.

The company has established a firm footing within the development and integration of management solutions focused on the HR and payroll administration markets. This covers several key areas such as training, employee self service (ESS), time and attendance and access control.

Teryl Schroenn, CEO at Accsys, says that contrary to some recent media reports, a wholly integrated system to control all aspects of HR is plausible – but this is critically dependent on the input of skilled, experienced experts.

“If you are using an integrated product, ensure that the company supplying it has experts in each of the fields covered by the software, to ensure that you are getting best-of-breed for each specialisation. So, if your product is an integrated payroll, HR and time and attendance system, the company supplying it should employ specialists in each of these fields in order to support the product effectively. This includes development that maintains the product’s best-of-breed status,” Schroenn explains.

According to Accsys, the approach has traditionally been to purchase best-fit solutions where the segregation was between payroll and HR. “But that era has come and gone. The truth is that the practical functional segregation lies between people management and accounting. How many companies cannot afford to have separate HR and payroll practitioners, where both tasks are being performed by the same person? Even where these roles are separate, top management often shares the same seat,” says Schroenn.

“One could take the argument a step further. Consider the fact that leave management has far-reaching touch points in both HR and payroll disciplines, and it becomes clear that in a modern people management environment, HR and payroll serves the same master - the employee. What better way to serve that master than by using one product that can offer you all the tools you need, without duplication of entry?”

What are the benefits of a totally integrated HR system? These are considerable and do much to enhance the operational efficiency of HR management in business. Benefits include a single point of entry to help eliminate human error, flexibility, high-end performance, extraction of equity reports from a central point and comprehensive reporting in various formats.

“A complete product suite would result in simplification of the learning curve, software updates and support. It would also lead to the simplification of security , development and licensing, all of which have direct and lasting impact on operations,” Schroenn concludes.
