Security personnel upgrades qualifications

September 2010 News & Events

Fifteen members of the University of Pretoria’s Department of Security Services successfully completed a National Certificate: General Security Practices NQF Level 3: 124 credits which is accredited by the Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA).

They received their certificates from the Dean of Students, Prof McGlory Speckman, at an award ceremony which took place on 24 May 2010. The learnership programme was presented by the Fidelity Security Services Training College, an institution accredited by SASSETA. Dr Louw Botha from the Department of Human Resources noted that this is an historic occasion, since it was the first learnership endorsed by the Skills Development Committee of the University under chairmanship of the senior vice principal, Prof Chris de Beer, that has ever been presented to staff members at this University.

The 15 employees to whom the certificates of successful completion were awarded, bring pride to the University regarding its staff development endeavours. The Registrar, Prof Niek Grové, conveyed this message of gratitude to these staff members who completed this programme and thanked the director of the Department of Security, Mr Colin Fouché, for setting an example at UP.
