New Samsung mini-dome

March 2010 Surveillance

Whether you are a technology-savvy installer or an end-user with high expectations, you are bound to be impressed by Samsung's new, feature-packed mini dome camera.

So says Valerie Bingham, product specialist for Elvey Security Technologies, after a personal test drive that she says more than delivered on its promises of excellent image quality delivery and impressive user benefits.

"This high-resolution day/night camera rides high on a diverse blend of cutting-edge technology that eliminates traditional installation problems," she declares.

Features include WDR (wide dynamic range) which not only utilises high shutter speed in bright areas and lower speed in dark areas, but also enables the camera to detect and adjust obvious differences in luminance.

Unique to this range of cameras is the virtual progressive scan (VPS), which Bingham says allows for the edges of moving objects to be clearly defined and produces "visibly superior images to those of non-VPS cameras".

The camera's motion adaptive digital noise reduction (DNR) - the result of the utilisation of 2D and 3D filters - reduces noise caused by both image brightness and movement. This, she says, provides a distinct and clear image under even the most demanding of lighting conditions.

Other features include its advanced motion detection function, which facilitates the detection of movement in pre-selected areas. On detection, the camera will trigger an alarm, particularly useful for users tasked with monitoring multiple screens at the same time, she notes.

Among its built-in video content analysis features are 'object left' and 'object removed'. Explains Bingham: "Should an object be left in an area for longer than the pre-determined time, or in the event that an object is removed from an area, the camera will set off an alarm. Further to this, its tracking function allows for the monitoring of objects in transit, again generating an alarm in the event of abnormal directional changes."
