SecuTech Expo 2009 impresses

June 2009 News & Events

SecuTech Expo 2009 was the largest show in its 12-year history, featuring more than 700 exhibitors, 1600 booths, 94 seminars and a gross floor area of 30 050 square metres. It was held at the Nangang Exhibition Hall, Taipei World Trade Centre from 22 to 24 April.

SecuTech Expo has been the most effective meeting place for Asian manufacturers and global buyers since 1998, facilitating countless business deals and partnerships. Located at a bigger and better venue this year, SecuTech Expo 2009 featured a range of themed pavilions, including CCTV/digital surveillance; access control/biometrics/RFID; intrusion alarm; integrated solutions; residential security; network and communication; security services and guarding. The pavilions allowed security professionals to source cost-effective solutions, identify mutual growth opportunities and develop a competitive edge.

Exhibitors at SecuTech Expo 2009 came from 20 countries worldwide. Their offerings were diverse, covering the full spectrum of safety and security: surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, information security, fire safety and integrated solutions. Despite the global economic downturn, more than 21 000 visitors packed the floors throughout the three-day event – the largest professional security trade show in Asia – which also included 94 seminars and numerous themed conferences.

The organiser, A&S Group, was privileged to welcome and host industry heavyweights and distinguished guests such as Gert van Iperen, president of Bosch Security Systems; Pramoud Rao, MD for Zicom Electronic Security Systems; Surajit Biswas, director of Vendor and Business Development for ADI Global Distribution; Andreas Kupka, MD for ABUS Security-Center; John Honovich, founder of IPVideoMarket.info; the speaker of the Taiwan Legislative Assembly; the director-generals of the Taiwan National Police and Fire Agencies; and foreign dignitaries and diplomats from all over the world.

More than meets the eye

As the largest international security expo in Asia, SecuTech Expo 2009 offered a comprehensive platform that went beyond product sourcing and networking. Targeted seminars and conferences updated security professionals on developments in digital surveillance, component technology and home automation.

Keynote speech

The speech, delivered by Van Iperen, gave the audience advice on how to ride the wave of change and survive the current financial and economic storm. “One of the many tasks that manufacturers need to fulfil now is to encourage and support acceptance of new technologies that will improve efficiency and effectiveness in the security industry.”

Market forecasts and technology development trends were then shared, giving the attendees a clear picture of what to expect in the next six to 12 months. Everyone was reassured, though, as “it is always remarkable how businesses in Asia show a high level of entrepreneur spirit and survival in the face of adversity.”

Global Digital Surveillance Forum

GDSF Asia’s keynote speakers included Masatoshi Matsuzaki, engineering fellow, IT Solution Division, Engineering Headquarters, Shimizu Corporation, and Honovich.

Matsuzaki talked about the real-life benefits and challenges of IT/IP convergence in building automation and electronic security. Honovich examined the developments in video surveillance for cost-effectiveness, including video analytics, H.264 and megapixel. He also provided tips on sales and marketing in the current recession.

Other featured speakers included industry veterans from Panasonic System Solutions, ObjectVideo, IBM, ioimage, VideoTec, Hikvision and Axis Communications, who presented the various benefits and applications of IP surveillance, video analytics and other state-of-the-art technologies.

CompoSec

The first CompoSec — the only international expo for components in security technologies and applications — was held concurrently with SecuTech. A brand new event, CompoSec completes the security supply chain, making SecuTech a one-stop shop by offering the latest on key components ranging from ICs, chipsets and modules to subsystems and embedded software.

Asian Manufacturer Summit

Recognising the need for a platform between Asian manufacturers and global buyers, A&S International and A&S Asia hosted the first-ever Asian Manufacturer Summit on 23 April. Topics on the table included factors for sourcing/outsourcing products and partner criteria for OEM/ODM considerations. The panel detailed some benchmarks for evaluating products and manufacturing partners, and provided insights into Asian manufacturers’ R&D and branding efforts.

Country hours

Country hours were designed as 'match-making' services for SecuTech exhibitors and visitors, with this year’s buyer groups from Japan, Singapore, Turkey and Vietnam. Buyers looking for specific IT/IP or security solutions were matched to reputable suppliers, saving them time and effort.

Home automation

A dedicated home automation pavilion at SecuTech showcased the latest smart home solutions involving electronic security, telecommunication, fire safety and more. Along with products, focused information sessions took place at the pavilion over the course of three days.
