SA Venture to Distribute Lenel's world class security system in SA.

October 99 Access Control & Identity Management

SA Venture, a communications and IT management solution company has recently been appointed a distributor of Lenel Systems' products. Lenel Systems provides access control, identification management, and alarm monitoring programs which are available in a variety of scalable, open architecture configurations. SA Venture provides a total solution to office communication needs.

Lenel Systems use the latest technology, which extends the product life cycle and provides the best return on the company's investment. It is designed for scalability, which means it will be able to handle future growth without performance degradation and ensures a seamless upgrade path as the security system grows. The products are designed to integrate seamlessly with corporate infrastructure, by making use of current industry standard Microsoft SQL and NT database technology, networking and operating system. All of Lenel's products are Y2K compliant.

The intelligent system controller

The field hardware supports modern architecture. One of the most important components of field hardware is the intelligent system controller (ISC) - the field panel used to monitor and control card readers and other field devices.

The Lenel ISC has a 32 bit CPU microprocessor allowing almost instantaneous response, even in a busy environment, when a card is swiped through a reader. The Lenel systems seamless support for the TCP/IP protocol ensures the controllers can be part of the corporate LAN or WAN infrastructure. Flash memory facilitates the quick update of firmware, the software in the controllers chip that allows the controller to process data and interface with other filed devices.

Software is hardware independent

The application software is hardware independent and seamlessly interfaces with multiple intelligent systems controllers from different vendors within the same system. It is peripheral-device-independent and seamlessly interfaces with digital/video cameras, badge printers, and scanners from different vendors.

SA Venture, with strategic partners Highland Holdings are currently co-ordinating a turnkey fit-out for Cisco Systems Southern Africa new head office in Bryanston, Johannesburg. Cisco Systems US installation of the Lenel Enterprise system, last September, marked the first ever worldwide installation of a security management system which combines both centralised and distributed management of enterprise-wide access control, alarm monitoring, and ID badging functions. The installation of Lenel's enterprise system will enable Cisco to establish WAN connectivity and manage the physical and database security of its regional facilities around the world. Cisco Systems Southern Africa will be SA Venture's first installation of Lenel products.

Lenel approaches the marketplace from a unique position, having core competencies in 32 bit, object-oriented technology, MS Windows NT development, and ODBC / SQL compliant database products such as Microsoft SQL server and Oracle. Lenel's interest in systems development is directed towards helping customers maximise and utilise their information technology investments.

All of Lenel's software applications are developed as a single suite of code, allowing for small, medium or large applications. No matter how the system grows, training, administration, and expansion costs are brought down to a minimum. Upgrades are accomplished from a single CD and even massive sites can complete a major upgrade in a short period of time.

Industry standard design intent means that many options are available for the selection of PCs, card readers, cameras, ID printers, card technologies, network topologies, and even database systems themselves.

Founded in 1991, Lenel Systems International is the Enterprise security solution provider and global leader in the development of seamlessly integrated security management systems, designed from the ground up to operate with and optimise Microsoft's Windows NT, SOL server, and BackOffice technologies. Lenel Systems International is a Microsoft certified solution provider and Lenel OnGuard is Microsoft BackOffice certified.

SA Venture, provide a complete technological office solution and will oversee installation and maintenance of network, full LAN and WAN, cable reticulation and routing, PABX, voice and data communication reticulation, access control and security and the installation of specialised areas such as computer rooms and communications rooms with audio visual equipment, facilities for conference calls and sound proofing.
