Integrated systems and offsite CCTV monitoring

Integrated security solutions provide faster response times, increased levels of security and reduced costs overall. So says José Sardinha, ADT Security’s CCTV business development manager, adding that the company can now offer a comprehensive, national CCTV monitoring and installation service to both its corporate and residential clients.

The company has established one seamless control centre, which can operate under the majority of protocols and signalling methods. Specially screened and trained operators, controllers and supervisors man it 24-hours-a-day.

Stressing the importance of a singular supply line, but still offering specialised products and services Sardinha adds that the company's state-of-the-art control room is capable of monitoring most DVRs. Existing equipment, which is different to that, which is recommended and installed by ADT Security can, at a cost, also be integrated into ADTs monitoring system.

Initially, monitoring is being handled on a national basis from one control room, but a regional rollout is planned. The offsite monitoring is carried out on a 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week basis using the same software as that currently used by British Telecom - believed to be the largest and most advanced security-monitoring centre in Europe. British Telecom used to employ 12 000 guards to protect and patrol 6000 sites prior to installing the software. Today, the corporation employs 380 guards to electronically monitor the same 6000 sites.

The software, supplied by Ambis Hi-Tech Security, operates in one of two ways - exception or direct link - depending on the client's needs. When operating under the 'exception' system the software is automatically triggered when something happens and the necessary security processes are immediately put in place. The event is recorded on camera and the operator is automatically given access to decision support, a process that assists him in taking the right action when responding to the situation. With a single touch of a button or click on an icon, the alarm is accepted, logged and acted on.

When a client opts for the 24-hours-a-day direct link option, dedicated cameras are used to 'patrol' specific areas of the client's premises. The reaction to unusual activity or alarm activation is also automated. ADT's CCTV division specialises in the supply of all CCTV solutions including digital surveillance and storage systems.

The systems, which are designed and installed according to parameters determined by the client and his needs, automatically respond according to need.

Prioritised 'stack' menus ensure the operators follow the correct action when an alarm is activated.

On installation the client allocates a level of urgency to specific alarm activations and supplies ADT Security with the names and contact details of the people assigned to deal with the problem. If, for example, a red stack is programmed for particular alarm activation, a specific number of people are notified at management level. If, however, the activation has a lower priority, ie, orange, a different set of people is automatically notified.

The equipment and installation is available from ADT Security as an outright purchase or a rental option. Both options include a full service agreement and dedicated CCTV sales and service department, which assesses and monitors the client's ongoing security requirements.

Says Sardinha: "The range of options and benefits, which this system offers both corporate and industrial clients are wide ranging. It is, we believe, at the cutting edge of technology offering our clients a level of protection they automatically expect and deserve."
