ESDA Golf Day report back

June 2002 News & Events

The Members of the Electronic Security Distributors Association (ESDA) took advantage of the last of the summer weather and made for the golf course for the annual ESDA golf day on 23 April 2002 at Kyalami Country Club. Over 100 golfers were in attendance and all had great fun. The day was rounded off with a buffet supper by candlelight (that was due to a general power failure). But the dark did not dampen any spirits.

Mel Labuschagne and Brian Appleton of Comsec came in with top scores, both winning a night for two to Lapalala Wilderness Game Lodge. In second place, Darren Smith of Hi-Tech Security Solutions magazine and Mike Lotter of Blick won two vouchers for an exclusive golf hamper from Golf Wear plus dinner vouchers from Red Pepper Restaurant. Graham Wild and Henry Beeth from the Keep Access team won a picnic basket and dinner vouchers for four from Red Pepper Restaurant.

However, the gentleman who walked away with the most prizes was undoubtedly Hennie Louw of Sesco who, besides winning the best front nine alongside his partner Ian MacDonald also came closest to the pin on the 6th and was drawn out the raffle by Caroline Muir from Vision Catcher.

The other prize winners were Yusuf Mather and Faghmie Majiet who had the best back nine, Noel Harris, who came closest to the pin on the 14th, and M. Smit who came closest to the pin on the 3rd and 17th, and lastly the booby prize winners J. Brennan and C. Lohrmann.

The golf day was an encouraging example of the security industry standing together, albeit socially. CMT Trading, Elvey International, Vision Catcher, Hi-Tech Security Solutions, Panasonic, Pyronix, Comsec and Sesco sponsored the event and helped to make the occasion a great success. NonESDA members, Golf Wear and Red Pepper Restaurant also sponsored prizes.

The feedback from the golfers and their guests who attended the ESDA 2002 Golf Challenge was very positive.

"We want to congratulate ESDA on a well-run event; both the day itself and the prize-giving dinner. From comments I heard, everyone had a great time (even if not a good score!). I am sure this will become an even more popular event in the future," stated Jacqui Eggart of Reed Exhibitions.

"Congratulations on a super ESDA Golf Day. We had a great day, and thoroughly enjoyed being with our clients, and seeing many of our industry colleagues and associates," commented Darren Smith of Hi-Tech Security Solutions magazine.

Natalie Young, Janet Peace and Louise van Huyssteen of Peace Profiles planned, organised and co-ordinated the event.
