SecureConnect from Fidelity ADT is more than just a smart app or a cool thermostat. This solution seamlessly connects, via broadband and Z-wave, the key devices in your home on one platform so they work together and work smarter, giving you the ability to monitor, protect and automate your home. Each system can be easily customised to your home’s unique configuration and your needs.
Wahl Bartmann, CEO of Fidelity Security Group says the keypad has literally moved to your cellphone with this smart system. “It allows alarm systems to be armed and disarmed, zones to be bypassed, and unlike traditional systems that only alert you in an alarm event, this system lets you know what’s happening at your property at any time through video verification.
“Trouble conditions can be seen and activations received on your phone. To add to its appeal it also includes smart plug control so lights and switches can be operated from the phone, wherever you are and whenever you choose.”
He says having a security app like SecureConnect provides the necessary peace of mind, it’s worthwhile familiarising yourself with these good practice points first.
The first thing to remember is not to use your app to disarm your system in the event of an alarm when you are not at home. “If you disarm the system and there is an activated zone, you will not be able to re-arm your system and your security will be compromised,” he says.
He says if one zone is constantly activating, bypass only that zone and contact Fidelity ADT to attend to the problem sooner than later. If it is multiple zones, that is a tell-tale sign of an intrusion. Ideally if you have CCTV installed as part of SecureConnect or the Fidelity ADT CCTV offering, you should check your cameras first before dismissing the armed response.
Some other basic good practices include:
• Do not disable your push notifications. Take the time to set up the notifications so that you are always aware of your alarm system status.
• Do not disarm your alarm system if you are not confident that you can rearm it. For example, when you have questionable signal.
• Set up arming reminders.
• Get in the habit of arming your alarm in the ‘stay’ profile when you are at home and ‘away’ profile when you leave.
• Put your lights on a timer to create the illusion that there is someone home at all times.
• Ensure your security like CCTV cameras, beams, sirens and strobes are visibly mounted so they can act as a deterrent to would-be criminals.
Bartmann says buyers sometimes question why they can’t just download a security app off the Internet. He says unlike many parts of the world where self-monitoring of these apps is the norm, in South Africa due to the high crime risk in the country, you require monitoring of these apps through a security industry accredited and compliant central monitoring station, with armed response. “And that is the beauty and differentiator of Fidelity ADT’s SecureConnect. You have to have the backup you can’t secure with off-the-shelf solutions,” he concludes.
