Save lives and protect property

August 2012 Fire & Safety, Products & Solutions

An important feature in the design and construction of fire protection equipment is the quality of hose reels, hose reel hoses and layflat hoses. It is unfortunate that illegal, low quality hoses are being imported into the country and Centa encourages the market to make sure there are both a reputable manufacturer’s brand name for traceability and the EN694 specification mark for quality approval on the hose.

Duncan Boyes, chairman of the Centa Group says, “Fire protection equipment is designed to save lives and to protect property. Inferior quality fire protection equipment, below international and local quality and safety standards, is simply not effective in an emergency situation.”

Included in the Centa Group’s range of fire protection hoses are 65 mm red and white layflat hoses; standard hose reel hoses and Gomtex hoses.

Standard hose reel hoses, with flexible PVC and polyester reinforcement, are designed for specific use on a hose reel, which is fitted permanently to a wall. These hoses are available in 30 m lengths, with a working pressure of 15 Bar and burst pressure of 60 Bar. This range is EN approved.

Layflat hoses, which are designed for use on fire hydrants, have a PVC inner lining, with a white synthetic fibre. This range is available in 30 m lengths and a coil diameter of 450 mm, with a working pressure of 10 Bar and burst pressure of 40 Bar. These hoses also have EN approval.

Gomtex hoses, also for use on fire hydrants, have a PVC outer covering, with a rubber lining. An additional layer jacket provides extra protection and enhanced durability. These hoses, with SANS 1456 Part 3 approval, are available in 30 m lengths, with a 20 Bar working pressure and 50 Bar burst pressure.

Centa’s corrosion-proof hose reels, which were launched at the end of 2011, are designed for efficient operation and extended service life in high corrosion areas. These environments include coastal areas, the mining sector, chemical and petrochemical plants and in any industrial application.

These robust corrosion proofed hose reels have reel discs made of mild steel and are hi-tech rust proofed and heavy duty powder coated. These hose reels have a salt spray durability of over 3000 hours.

Also in the range are standard, swing hose and stainless steel hose reels. Hose reel spares include bolts, quick couplings, branch pipes, hydrant valves and steamer connectors.

The Centa Group offers a technical advisory, installation and maintenance service for complete fire protection. A specialist test facility has been established, where fire performance tests are conducted, to ensure fire protection equipment will be effective in the event of a fire.
