Visitor recognition at UShaka Marine World

CCTV Handbook 2005 Surveillance

The situation

The PlanetCCTV digital video recording, transmission, archiving and monitoring system has been selected for use at UShaka Marine World for facial identification of visitors.

The solution

Zoopics take high quality pictures of all visitors to UShaka Marine World and Wet and Wild, a wide range of water rides. The key success factors for Zoopics is to quickly find all the visitors' photographs, display these to the visitor, allowing them to select the best for printing and mounting in a Zoopics folder. At busy times, up to 64 000 people may pass through UShaka, and at Wet and Wild the gates may close as early as 10 am, when the park is full. During such peak times the queue of people wanting to find images of themselves on the water slides may extend to 150 m, and take up to two hours for a visitor to reach the front. With the facial identification software, all images taken by professional photographers are enrolled into the daily database, and when the visitors request to see their images, a live image is captured by the PlanetCCTV software and compared to the database. All the visitors' images captured on the different slides are displayed to the visitors, without them having to remember what rides they went on and which photographer took the photos, allowing them to quickly select the best images for printing.

The benefits

Some of the major features, which made this product range the IP-based system of choice for this application, include the following:

* Video clip generation.

* Intelligent smart search capability.

* IP network camera integration.

* New improved audio quality.

* New capture technology providing higher frame rates and improved picture quality.

* Archiving architecture that includes local and remote storage capability into the terabyte range.
