Phillips introduces new LTC 3963 series timelapse video recorders

June 2000 Surveillance

Philips' new LTC 3963 Series video cassette recorders use state-of-the-art technologies to provide high density (HD) video recording in all speeds. Audio recording is available in 9 and 27 h mode for the 50 Hz model (PAL) and in the 6, 18, and 30 h mode for the 60 Hz model (NTSC).

Designed for security applications, in both PAL and NTSC formats, the LTC 3963 Series includes alarm recording. When connected to an alarm switch and programmed for a preselected recording duration, it automatically starts recording when an alarm is received. A TTL output is also available that can be used to alert security personnel that an alarm has occurred.

The 'alarm ready' feature allows recording of alarms even when the VCR is in the timer mode. 'Alarm command speedup' automatically switches the speed from extended record mode to a preprogrammed 'Alarm record speed'. Six selectable alarm recording durations are available and an alarm light on the front panel and the on-screen display indicates that an alarm has been received.

High-speed alarm search and other features

High-speed alarm search allows the tape to be rapidly scanned for the presence of alarm data. The recorder automatically switches from high- speed search to the 'Play' mode upon encountering the recorded alarm. 'Still playback' freezes the tape for close observation of one picture.

The available 240 h high density recording time provides an additional 72 h of recording time for event alarms when there is a need to continuously record on a weekly basis.

Other important security features include a 'Program timer' which preprograms the time of day in which the unit records alarm activity (automatically turns on/off anytime in a 24 h period) and a security lock for the recorder's controls. A built-in time/date generator records time, date and alarm indication both on-screen and on-tape. These units feature on-screen display (OSD) of head usage and slow-speed tracking. 'High-speed video scan' allows for fast searching for areas of interest. For system integration, an RS232 port is available for remote programming and control.

Says Tony Janse, Product Manager at Philips CSI South Africa, "The advantage of our LTC 3962 and LTC 3963 is that they can be directly connected to our range of System 4 video multiplexers and be controlled from the front panel of the unit or via the keyboard option. This makes the combination of multiplexer and VCR more useful and operator friendly.

"Philips CSI offer a full range of VCRs from 24 h time lapse to 960 h, normal density of 300 lines to high density realtime VCRs. There are also VCRs with SVHS outputs so enhancing the quality of recorded video," he adds.
