Satellite vehicle tracking system

November 2001 Asset Management

The Startrack system from Startrack Communications provides around-the-clock communication systems for advanced asset management. The system incorporates the latest satellite technology to enable the efficient control and monitoring of both fixed and mobile assets in all-weather conditions, around-the-clock, and in near-to-realtime. By directly connecting a business with its remote assets, it provides powerful control, regardless of the location of personnel or assets. The system will even alert one to unauthorised use or intrusion of any asset.

Information flow

The Startrack system is able to provide extensive coverage of Africa, Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. The system's satellite transceivers are designed to operate in industrial applications and require minimal power allowing for operation from solar cells and standard D cell batteries.

The communications network connects the remote site to the Startrack response centre and consists of a combination of various wireless and terrestrial communications infrastructures including satellite, GSM, GSM SMS and landlines.

The response centre is the data processing and communications hub of the Startrack system, providing manned round-the-clock access to data that it converts into user-friendly information. This information is customised to suit the client's needs and presented in the user's desired format. The system employs various technologies to allow the customer the maximum flexibility in accessing data or alarms including: web-enabled devices, phone/cellphone (operator or voice response), direct line, dialup line, e-mail, faxed reports.

Applications of the Startrack system include emergency services, security and vehicle tracking.
