Fidelity's new control room

September 2009 News & Events

The Fidelity Security Group has created a control room that combines the latest technology to enable it to deliver optimal security solutions.

The control room makes continuous monitoring of security operations and ongoing system maintenance possible. It exceeds the SAIDSA standards and Fidelity has ensured a disaster recovery or backup control centre is in place to provide clients with the assurance that their systems are always monitored in the event of a disaster.

The Fidelity Monitoring division consists of a core of individuals with specific skills and experience with the mandate to manage client risk by means of a multiservice-coordination approach. Some of the functions, services and departments that make up the division; include the following:

* Alarm monitoring.

* Alarm maintenance/facility management.

* Armed response; dedicated and subcontracted.

* Strategic information and operations.

* Information processing.

* Pro-active risk management.

* Covert surveillance.

Fidelity’s central control room has an ergonomic design to sustain the 24/7 operation. Staff work shifts and each team has its own infrastructure. The staff is preselected and goes through a selection process, which includes criminal check, credit worthiness check, PSIRA grading, basic control room procedures and integrity testing. These basic skills are further honed during the in-house training that is provided on site to all employees.

Fidelity’s response infrastructure is offered to all major banking institutes and cash depots, supported by its national footprint. Nationally the South African Police Services (SAPS) forms part of the team when dealing with financial institutions.

Fidelity’s high risk monitoring includes, among others, vehicle tracking via satellite, remote vault opening, arming and disarming sites and off-site video monitoring. Fidelity has 52 branches nationwide as well as 2 branches in Swaziland serving as a response network that is available 24/7 to respond where and when necessary.
