Fire alarms at sea

Issue 2 2020 Fire & Safety

Technoswitch now offers marine approved conventional control panels from Haes, aimed at fire safety for all small to medium seafaring vessels.

The Esento Marine range is approved to EN 54 parts 2 and 4 and addresses the issues of limited form and function in the conventional panels market for use at sea. Designed with the severity of the potential situation in mind, the panels are equipped with programmable delays to outputs which allow time for an investigation before invoking a full evacuation or muster alarm.

This new feature-rich panel mitigates false alarms with three false alarm management mode options and is designed to ensure it’s not disrupted by increased vibrations encountered during a journey.

The panels are available from 2 to 12 zones and offer a comprehensive suite of programmable features. The display uses bright, clearly labelled LED indicators and the simple colour coded buttons give the end user the confidence to correctly manage their fire alarm system.

The muster alarm feature triggers sounders to emit a sequence of alerts defined as seven short activations of the alarms, followed by a longer activation, indicating a ‘General Emergency Alarm’ to the crew. Individual zones can be programmed to be a muster alarm zone. The ‘Resound’ button on the front of the panel can also be programmed to activate a muster alarm.

The 8 to 12 zone panel has a built-in delay timer which can be applied to any or all zones, and can be used to allow for an investigation before invoking a full evacuation or muster alarm. In addition, individual outputs or sounder circuits can be set to be operational during the delay. These can then be used to indicate the alarm condition in staff areas, or as required.

The panels offer a comprehensive range of options and settings to provide solutions for almost any given installation requirement.
