Passage to luxury

Access & Identity Management Handbook 2017 Access Control & Identity Management

The seamless operation of Besam bi-parting sliding door system from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems allows for the easy passage of vehicles in and out of a luxury vehicle showroom in Fourways, Johannesburg.

Managing director of ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems South Africa, André Aiton, explains that the new doors required for the vehicle showroom had to be specially designed to withstand continuous use at a high degree of safety to avoid injury to customers and staff as well as damage to vehicles. Alongside convenience, the doors also needed to be visually appealing to customers. A further requirement from the customer was that the door system be reliable to ensure a maximum lifetime.

The order included Besam bi-parting doors complete with side screens and break-out, beam-mounted solutions. A total of three bi-parting break-out unit operators were installed and the mechanism was completed with a Technical Data Besam Frame BreakOut unit. According to Aiton, these units can open the full length to enable vehicles to be moved in and out of the showroom with ease.

Ultimately, the doors keep adverse weather conditions such as heat, cold and wind (even insects) outside, while maintaining a constant comfortable indoor climate. By preventing the air conditioning from escaping, this environmentally friendly solution reduces energy consumption, saving electricity costs for the vehicle dealership.

Additional benefits include a 12-month warranty (beginning at time of delivery), regular service inspections by a trained qualified individual and a one-year maintenance contract (with an option to extend).

All sliding door operators are linked to the fire alarm systems for safety and easy evacuation, for safety and ease of use the door sensors can be toggled to an option of the user’s choice. For example: OPEN, the door stays permanently open, or AUTO, for normal two-way operation, other settings include, AUTO PARTIAL (door can be opened partially with the inner and outer activation units), ONE WAY (passage from one way only), OFF (door cannot be opened from either side and RESET (door will return to the closed position and function as normal).

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems partnered with Edelweiss glass and aluminium to complete the installation to meet the customer’s deadline.
