A good buy for residential estates

Residential Estate Security Handbook 2016 - Vol 1 Residential Estate (Industry)

We provide tailor made Bosch integration platform solutions, that in turn provide end users with greater ease of operation and faster access to the information they need in critical situations, says Wayne Louw, business development manager at Pentagon. The company used the event to promote the fact that thermal cameras do not need to be viewed as expensive nice-to-have alternatives for residential estate surveillance.

He emphasises that it is critical for estate managers to consider all risks and their various options before deciding on a security solution. Estates are sadly often ill-advised and select the cheapest optical camera option.

Louw says that while there is a place for optical cameras on estates, Pentagon recommends the use of thermal camera technology, especially on perimeters. The technology is specifically advantageous in conditions where inclement weather is an issue as it results in enhanced analytics performance and therefore a more secure perimeter.

Thermal technology furthermore eliminates false alarms and increases detection capabilities and by coupling the technology with analytics, you effectively remove the human error from the controller.

The power of using a Bosch thermal solution compared to similar technologies, is in the fact that it is a seamless turnkey solution which includes everything from storage, head end, video management software, analytics and obviously cameras. Furthermore, this is a tried and tested solution on several large projects across the country and in several industries.

Pentagon Distribution carries enormous amounts of stock which results in zero downtime onsite and no lead times on orders. It also has technical support teams that are able to service nationally.

Louw says that several estates have commented that they perceived thermal to be too expensive but the calculations indicate that on perimeters that exceed

1.8 km, it is more feasible to deploy thermal cameras. Obviously, Louw adds, on shorter distances and where budgetary restraints are particularly stringent, one has to weigh up the cost factors versus the perceived threat and solution.

Pentagon’s overriding goal was to educate the attendees on the advantages of thermal technology and to dispense the attitude that it is merely an expensive gimmick. Louw says that the company received very positive feedback from several estate managers and integrators attending the event, with queries ranging from the cost implications, through to the technical specifications and general setup of thermal cameras.
