Innovative security solutions

October 2014 Security Services & Risk Management

As a trusted partner with established networks and strong relationships with central banks, G4S brings expertise in cash management, logistics, intelligent systems and the latest technology to the banking sector and financial institutions.

Its highly experienced personnel manage a network of 35 cash facilities nationally, and operate a fleet of over 1000 vehicles fitted with the latest integrated communication and tracking systems.

It provides turnkey solutions from cash transportation through to cash processing. Each month, it processes R4 billion worth of cash.

ATM solutions and engineering

G4S ATM Solutions and Engineering ensures that its customers’ ATM networks are up and running, offering rapid support when needed. It combines the supply and installation of cutting-edge technology with service excellence to provide holistic, multi-vendor supply, maintenance, refurbishment and technical support services.

Banking solutions

By partnering with G4S, banks reduce their exposure to potential risk and ensure regulatory compliance. Nine commercial South African banks trust G4S to run dedicated regional and shared cash centres on their behalf.

The innovative G4S Deposita system uses locally developed software. The system manages all aspects linked to their devices, including transaction recording, user activity, physical and component monitoring, as well as reconciliation, settlement and management reports.

Cash-in-transit

The company recently installed a new foam protection system in cash-in-transit vehicles that carry bulk and high value consignments. When this Denial of Access system is triggered, expanding foam is released and rapidly fills the hold of the vehicle and hardens, encasing the contents of the vehicle and protecting customer assets.

Its fully armoured fleet is equipped with electro-mechanical interlocking and immobilising systems, all of which are tracked and monitored. The MiX Telematics fleet management system ensures route optimisation and adherence, which in turn ensures that G4S is able to meet high service levels set by customers.

Bar-coded security bags are tracked and traced by e-Viper and transported in a variety of cross-pavement carriers (CPCs) that are able to transport both security bags and cassettes. The CPCs are fitted with ink and dye technology that will stain the banknotes if the CPC is stolen or forced open.

Customer assets are under constant surveillance by the National Control Centre.

Cash processing

G4S provides a full outsourced solution for a number of commercial banks and process much of the country’s cash.

Utilising recently developed local software, customers can now realise same day value when processing their cash with G4S, either through its cash processing centres or via one of its broad range of automated banking machines. This new software enhances the cash flow of your business and optimises your cash-handling process with accurate referencing, enhanced security and audit trails and immediate reconciliation with alerts in the event of a discrepancy. Information generated by its software allows management to track and analyse trends and produce powerful reporting.

The company’s online systems are easily adapted to suit the needs of its customers and its developers are able to customise software for all business applications.

G4S diverse solutions also include:

* High value logistics: transport of valuables to destinations nationally and throughout Africa.

* Risk solutions:</i> services include facility, equipment and procedural audits, incident investigation up to court level docket reporting, covert operations, and loss adjusting.

* Manned security: diverse security services that offer a full spectrum of manpower and expertise.

* Technology systems: it designs, installs and maintains security management systems to protect your employees, assets and premises. This includes access control, time and attendance with payroll integration, health and safety management, contractor and visitor management.

* Insurance: while in G4S possession: all items can be insured through G4S Insurance, a registered short-term insurance provider.

By looking at the challenge of not only managing the various aspects of security, but also managing the cash cycle, G4S can help financial institutions to manage their cash more efficiently, protect assets, reduce costs and deliver a better experience for the customers they serve.
