ViRDI UBio Tab 5

September 2019 Access Control & Identity Management, Products & Solutions

The UBio Tablet – designation UBio Tab5 – is a 5-inch tablet with ViRDI’s NScan-FM FBI PIV and FAP20 certified fingerprint sensor embedded within the casing of the tablet body. The NScan-FM is the slimmest fingerprint sensor with a height of only 13.4 mm. The tablet body is ruggedised and will be supplied with a Gorilla Glass screen protector and rubberised tablet casing to protect the tablet from accidental damage.

The NScan-FM fingerprint module features all the functionality found in all other ViRDI biometric terminals – Live & Fake Fingerprint Detection (LFD) and multispectral response imaging as standard, as well as the capability to function as a PIV iAFIS device with a sensing area of 16 mm x 21 mm.

Image formats are ISO19794-4, WSQ, RAW and BMP with ViRDI (proprietary), ISO 19794-2 and ANSI 378 template types.

The tablet itself features the native Android 7.0 operating system (no GMS support), a 1.3 GHz 64-bit quad-core processor, a 5-inch capacitive multi-touch IPS LCD (1280 x 720 resolution), 2 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM (expandable via microSD to 64 GB), a 5 MP auto focus rear camera with flash and a 2 MP auto focus front camera, an ICASA-approved 2G/3G/WCDA/4G GSM dual micro SIM module, USB 2.0 high-speed port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC 13.56 MHz card reading capability and a removable 6000 mAH Li-Ion battery.

The ViRDI V-Terminal T&A; application is pre-installed on the unit. The V-Terminal application communicates either via the on-board Wi-Fi module or the GSM module to the ViRDI UNIS 4.5 Command & Control software and records user transaction for T&A; purposes, takes a selfie of the user for visual authentication and the GPS location of where the transaction had taken place.

The user limit on the V-Terminal application is 1000 users. The application will be forward compatible with the upcoming Alpeta Command & Control software that will replace UNIS in the next 12 months.

An SDK is available for bespoke developments such as PIV iAFIS, voter tracking, banking and issuing ID by using the NScan-FM FBI PIV & FAP20 sensor’s capabilities.

Optional extras available via ViRDI Africa include a carry pouch, a sling for the carry pouch as well as a wall mounted lockable bracket to secure the UBio Tab5 in remote semi-permanent locations such as construction sites.
