Fit and forget Titan turnstile is Africa’s favourite

1 August 2019 News & Events, Access Control & Identity Management

Turnstar’s Titan turnstile is the clear leader in the African market. The Titan full-height turnstile was the physical security barrier of choice for the ICC world Cricket Cup in 2003 and the CAF African Cup of Nations in Ghana in 2008. In addition, it was the firm favourite of a number of stadia for the FIFA World Cup held in South Africa in 2010.

Established in 1990 by professional engineer Sidney Sacks, Turnstar Systems has built its reputation on the durability, reliability and high-quality performance of its product range. The development of a large range of turnstiles and other physical access control products have placed the company at the forefront of the continent’s security solution providers.

“After 30 years of securing the world’s entrances, the Titan turnstile continues to be one of our flagship products, with its fit-and-forget characteristics making it an asset for organisations looking to increase pedestrian traffic through flow without compromising on security levels. We have a long list of clients who report on the enduring low-maintenance nature of the Titan turnstile, even when operating in harsh environmental conditions,” says Craig Sacks, MD of Turnstar.

The Titan turnstile is manufactured in an ISO9001:2015 approved 8 800 m2 factory, equipped with state-of-the-art CNC machinery and robotic welding. “Careful planning, coupled with the extensive expertise and experience of the Turnstar team, provides us with the capacity to manufacture large volumes of our products. This ensures that our stockholding of Titan turnstiles is more than adequate to meet market demand,” says Sacks.

Enhanced reliability, low maintenance

The Titan turnstile has a number of features that allow it to remain in service for extended periods of time, even in remote locations. The ultra-heavy-duty Rotalok electromechanical rotation locking mechanism is fitted to all Titan turnstiles and has been tried and tested over a period of 20 years. Designed by professional engineers, the Rotalok offers bi-directional operation and used suspended rotor technology to eliminate stress on the base bearing. In addition, the mechanism has a rubber coupling system which acts as a shock absorber.

The Rotarun perpetual base bearing is made from a combination of stainless steel and self-lubricating engineering plastics, unaffected by dust, dirt and moisture.

Zinc plating provides corrosion resistance, especially useful when the Titan is deployed in coastal environments, while the locking disks and pawls are case hardened to eliminate wear. Solenoids are rated for 100% duty cycle and so precise is the design of the turnstiles that factory settings need no further adjustment.

So confident is Turnstar that the Titan turnstiles are made for the long haul, that the company offers a 10-year guarantee (one year on electrical components).

“We are offering a free factory tour and training session on the Titan turnstile, valued at R350, between 9:30 and 11:30 on Friday 27 September. This is a great opportunity for resellers and system integrators/installers to get in on the ground floor with the addition of the Titan turnstile to their arsenal of physical security offerings. Space is limited so we urge interested parties to contact us at [email protected] or 011 786 1633 as soon as possible,” says Sacks.
