Surveillance for Spar in Zimbabwe

October 2018 Surveillance

Spar, founded in 1932, is a multinational retail chain and franchise brand with approximately 12 500 stores in 42 countries. Uniview provided a video surveillance solution for four Spar supermarkets in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, to protect customers and goods.

Each Spar is over 5600 square metres and used one NVR and 30 cameras to cover all of the supermarket, including entrances and exits, shopping areas, cashier desks etc.

The UNV NVR and cameras support intrusion detection. By setting up a restricted area, it can detect if anyone enters into the zone at any time and raises the alarm. This is used to protect the stores and prevent break-ins at night when the stores are closed.

Moreover, the store owners can benefit from people counting functions, which can help to determine peak and quiet hours, allowing the owners to change their plans and reorganise employees’ working times so as to save costs and improve management and customer service.

Storeowners can also watch recordings or a live view from the cameras on their smartphones at any time using the EZView mobile app. Uniview’s P2P cloud also supports push notifications to smartphones in the event of an alarm.

Uniview’s UNV Ultra 265 compression technology allows for better compression of video being transferred and stored by combining H.265 and U-Code encoding technology. This can reduce bandwidth by up to 95%, compared with common encoding algorithms, without any compromise on the details. For storeowners, Ultra 265 can save them up to 75% of their hard disk costs.
