Local access leaders

April 2015 Access Control & Identity Management

Centurion Systems was started in 1986 by Pat Dickens – an electrical engineer by trade – along with his wife Anne. Initially concerned with the manufacture and maintenance of UPS systems, Pat soon identified gate automation as a rapidly growing market after he was asked by his father-in-law to design an electronic gate controller and subsequently received numerous referrals from his friends who wanted similar automated gates installed.

Drawing from his UPS background, and as if he somehow foretold the future of power distribution in South Africa, Pat designed the gate motors to include battery backup, and thus pioneered this feature in the local market. Centurion Systems has since become a household name with branches across South Africa, one in Lagos, Nigeria and a 10th branch known as Centurion Systems Pacific set to open in Australia in 2015.

Today, Centurion Systems manufactures a diverse and award-winning range of products to control the access of people and vehicles into and out of residential, commercial and industrial properties. Its products are developed in South Africa in accordance with the ISO9001-2008 quality assurance system. Investing considerably in research and development, the company employs a large team of talented engineers that are constantly researching new technologies and innovations, ensuring that they continue to lead the way in security, reliability and performance.

Leading locally

Centurion’s target market is installers of access automation and security equipment, integrators, architects, property developers as well as home- and business-owners wanting to secure their properties and enjoy the convenience afforded by access automation.

The vast majority of Centurion’s products are manufactured locally, which means that they are designed to cope with the harsh African climate and environmental conditions. They are renowned for being reliable and robust, and offer a plethora of features contributing to easy installation, setup and diagnostics.

Besides the reliability and functionality of its products, the quality of Centurion’s after-sales support makes it stand out in the access control and security arenas. Our technical call centre is able to provide competent technical support in all 11 official languages, as well as French, and our in-house training facility offers comprehensive training courses on all Centurion-supported products.

The company’s focus has always been on designing systems that offer maximum convenience, functionality and ease of installation, and with its wireless and GSM ranges growing at an expeditious rate, the future may well see it branch out into new territory.
