Rapid alcohol testing

June 2014 News

Alcohol consumption or intoxication in the workplace can be a major source of liability for organisations in many industries. However, testing every employee as they enter the workplace is a time-consuming process that is often the source of dissention among workers.

The new Lion AlcoBlow RapidTest from ALCO-Safe is the ideal solution. It delivers a fast, accurate ‘pass or fail’ result using only a tiny sample of breath, without the need for physical contact between the subject and the instrument. It can also be used in both Active and Passive modes to ensure all employees can be tested quickly and efficiently, and that suspicious liquids can be checked for the presence of alcohol.

“The Occupational Health and Safety Act specifies a zero tolerance approach to alcohol in the workplace, but it is up to companies to enforce this within their own organisations. This is particularly important in industries such as mining, manufacturing and construction where workers are dealing with dangerous chemicals, heavy machinery or equipment that requires a high level of concentration.

“However, many traditional breathalysers are slow, cumbersome and intrusive for everyday testing on large volumes of people. The new AlcoBlow RapidTest has been designed to address these challenges and provide an accurate result to minimise risk and liability for organisations,” says Rhys Evans, director of ALCO-Safe.
