The EF-ASD aspirating smoke detector

May 2014 Fire & Safety

The EF-ASD aspirating smoke detector offers economical, single or dual area aspirated fire detection and is ideal for the protection of difficult to access, environmentally demanding, aesthetic or architecturally restricted areas. The EF-ASD is designed to complement conventional and analogue addressable system technology by combining standard field serviceable smoke detectors with a standalone air sampling solution.

Operation

The EF-ASD operates by actively drawing air from the protected area through a single 8 mm sampling hole in a pipe run of up to 50 m per pipe. The air samples are then filtered before being analysed by conventional or analogue addressable point detectors incorporated in the fire alarm system. The ASD utilises a high performance aspirator fan combined with sophisticated airflow monitoring and control circuitry that helps keep the transport delays to a minimum and ensures airflow is kept within the working limits.

System status and flow control are continuously displayed via a 10 element bar graph and on-board fault relays allow remote monitoring.

Key features and applications

The EF-ASD is easy to install, commission and maintain and is housed in a rugged IP65 enclosure. It has a range of applications including general area protection, shaft and service ducts, harsh environments (wet and/or dusty), ceiling and floor voids and hose down areas such as food preparation, pharmaceutical or cleaning areas.
