Wearable video and audio surveillance

March 2014 Surveillance

Security personnel are faced with a host of potential incidents and being able to assess the liability of parties involved after the fact is crucial. Graphic Image Technologies (GIT) has developed a solution for this challenge – the Tactical CCTV vest with live GSM streaming capability, a wearable solution that delivers a live video and audio feed as well as GPS information from security personnel to the control room.

“Typically when security incidents occur, management teams need to rely on eye witness accounts as well as the guard’s version of events. This can lead to a ‘he said, she said’ scenario, which makes taking the decisive action, legal or otherwise, a challenging task. The Tactical CCTV Vest provides a comprehensive view of events as they happen, moving CCTV in the field from a post-event analysis tool to a real-time proactive solution,” says Mark Chertkow, MD at GIT.

Using SerVision CVG-M video gateway technology, the Tactical CCTV Vest provides real-time, low bandwidth live streaming, enabling the control room to have eyes and ears on the ground at all times. Constructed of lightweight mesh, the vest features a starlight camera for clear pictures night and day, a microphone, GPS antenna for positional tracking, GSM antenna for reception and live video feed to control rooms. It also features a 10- or 20-hour rechargeable battery pack and supports remote viewing on iOS and Android smart devices. All of these technologies are discreetly incorporated into the vest, which weighs around two kilograms with a 10-hour battery.

“There has always been a need for wearable CCTV in the security space, but technology and cost constraints have hampered this development. Solutions were often bulky and uncomfortable, without the benefit of live streaming. The Tactical CCTV Vest is lightweight, comfortable and discreet, blending in with security personnel uniforms, as well as easy to use and rugged enough to withstand everyday wear and tear,” says Martin Cooper, account executive at GIT and designer and creator of the Tactical CCTV Vest.

For armed response units and security personnel in the field, the Tactical CCTV Vest provides continuous recording and live streaming of events, with two-way speech capabilities for always-on communications. The vests provide full remote surveillance capability, the ability to trigger alarms with a panic button in the event of an incident for rapid and appropriate response, and full tracking for location identification.“

With all of the components hidden in a vest that bears a strong resemblance to the usual attire of security guards, the Tactical CCTV Vest is ideal for everyday use as well as covert operations. Should an attack take place against security personnel wearing the vest, the probability of perpetrators being caught is significantly higher thanks to live video and audio surveillance,” says Chertkow.
