IFSEC SA tackles crime head on

March 2014 News & Events

While a recent survey by Crime Stats SA indicates that there has been a general decrease in total crimes from 2004 to 2013 of over 448 5000, when comparing 2004 figures with those in 2013, there has been an annual increase in robbery (with violent intent and coercion) at non-residential premises of 12 677. Commercial crime has increased by 35 631 since 2004 while residential theft has increased by 8587. This is a clear indication that while certain crime sectors are being controlled to an extent, certain key theft areas need increased focus.

IFSEC SA continues to bring key technology suppliers in the market to one common venue to provide visitors with an opportunity to simplify the security and fire purchase decision-making process. “Technology stands still for nobody and we are looking forward to the array of new products being launched at IFSEC SA 2014 between 13 and 15 May at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand,” said Joshua Low, IFSEC SA and OSH EXPO Africa event director at show organiser UBM Montgomery.

Fired up

The loss of property to fire is unacceptably high, with FPASA’s statistics for 2011 indicating losses of an incredible R2 085 522 959. While not all of this is related to fires in buildings, these figures are staggering and call for immediate attention and action. “In addition to the vast array of security products at IFSEC SA 2014, the number of fire detection and suppression products is set to increase,” said Low.

Low points out that often companies are unsure about the correct route to follow when selecting security and fire equipment. “Not only are visitors spoilt for choice at IFSEC SA, but they are also privy to a wealth of information sharing. A seminar is being organised to address current trends and best practice. These short, interactive sessions with be held at the IFSEC SA Seminar Theatre and promise to provide valuable guidance to exhibition attendees.”

Adding impetus to the singular success of IFSEC SA as a must-attend event, the collective value added by the OSH EXPO Africa 2014 exhibition allows a clever crossover of technologies for visitors tasked with finding occupational health and safety solutions.
