P2000 security management system

1 January 2014 Surveillance, Products & Solutions

More security technology won’t make people more safe or secure. In fact, without the right integration platform, disparate devices and systems actually restrict movement and limit growth potential. Johnson Controls’ P2000 security management system, first developed over five decades ago and today installed at over 50 000 sites globally, is an innovative integration platform that’s adaptable to small and large environments – and is geared to leverage current and future technologies.

The P2000 open system technology uses IT network infrastructure and enables integration with multiple systems and devices. It integrates intrusion detection, video surveillance, enterprise IT (including HR and SAP systems), access control, fire control, elevators and building management, and can plug-and-play with equipment from many manufacturers.

In South Africa, the P2000 is used by multi-nationals, mines and other organisations that have critical assets and are required to meet stringent regulatory and government compliance. For these organisations, an intelligent security solution built around the integration of numerous systems and inputs is essential.

P2000 runs on a number of common operating systems, incorporates the latest wireless technologies and features graphical user interfaces that deliver flexibility while keeping things simple for the operator. The technology platform allows organisations to centralise their security and building operations via the Web or an installed network, giving operators real-time views and information of the facility.

Standout features of the P2000 include its ability to integrate to all platforms, protocols, and systems, including systems outside the security arena. It has been built from scratch using open technologies and systems that integrate large enterprise systems, and it is backed by the expertise that comes from installing and supporting over 50 000 systems around the world at universities, airports, hospitals, schools, life science and industrial facilities, government installations, military bases and mines.

Ongoing updates ensure it accommodates, and is geared to leverage current and future technologies. Recent updates include the introduction of true peer-to-peer communication between devices. The system also includes numerous other features not found in standard access control and security products, such as anti-loitering, asset tracking, nested anti-passback, etc.
