Automated hospital access

May 2013 Access Control & Identity Management

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems installed three Besam Unislide mechanisms for automated sliding doors to replace non-functioning doors and allow for easy entrance and access into operating theatres at a hospital based in Limpopo Province, South Africa.

Besam heavy-duty motors were also installed in the new wing of the hospital for safe and effective access into the hospital as a user-friendly entrance solution, guaranteeing patients hassle free movement in and out of the hospital. In addition, four Besam Unislides were installed to the X-Ray doors to improve movement through a heavy trafficked area in the hospital.

“Besam entrance systems present secure, comfortable access without detracting from the aesthetics of buildings and are extensively specified and installed at medical clinics, shopping centres, malls, banks, airports, hotels, fast food chains, casinos and many other facilities that demand security-conscious customer friendly door opening systems,” states ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems MD, André Aiton.

Thanks to the benefits of safe, secure, hands-free door operation, Unislide mechanisms for automated sliding doors are often selected by medical centres where movement of gurneys and wheelchairs must be accommodated with minimum fuss. These solutions can include card swipe mechanisms and buttons that can easily be pushed with an elbow when necessary for hygienic and secure purposes.

“We recently supplied entrance solutions to Life Flora Clinic and Durbanville Mediclinic,” says Aiton. He adds that environmental awareness and energy efficiency also play a major role in the stipulation of automated Unislide doors. “The right access system can realise significant savings on electricity bills and businesses, developers and architects are recognising that automated doors help to reduce their carbon footprint by decreasing heating and cooling losses and maintaining even internal air condition-regulated temperatures. ASSA ABLOY’s effective maintenance is integral of any system’s good performance and that maintenance packages are offered to suit individual customer needs.
